From July 20th- August 16th I was an artist in residence for the Studios at MASS MoCA, North Adams. There I got the chance to work on my newest series.
“This Souvenir Dơnt Forget” is a series of paintings that explores the connections between memory, experience, and inheritance. I am referencing photos from my parents time in the Philippines en route to America to understand the emotions and experience of losing home. As a child of postwar Vietnam, I am interested in the inheritance of this memory and the transformation of identity.
From the loss what do we gain?
